ImagineWear wins Third Place and Creativity Award at NOVA Competition 2021

On March 27th, the concept of ImagineWear was unveiled at NOVA 2021, an annual entrepreneurship competition for high school students hosted at Taipei American School. NOVA’s website explains “NOVA provides students practical entrepreneurship knowledge and skills by teaching them how to identify a real-world problem, develop an innovative solution, create a rapid prototype, and pitch to potential investors”. Mentors and judges for the competition include Bruce Bateman, CEO at QO+, and Jay Cheng, co-founder of Wemo scooters.

In response to the prompt, “During a post-pandemic world, what problem can be solved?”, Hector L., Evan L., and Matthew C. created the concept of ImagineWear, envisioning an AR fitting room to be accessible by both consumers and businesses alike. The team developed the product line, ImagineWear, and ImagineWear Pro, threatened with an innovative business model to allow consumers to shop and businesses to access information and utilize the device in stores. In pitching the idea, the team was able to connect their concept to sustainability, and how ImagineWear would be able to alleviate environmental issues in the fast fashion industry.

The competition lasted 6 hours, with the team first pitching to a semifinalist panel, then advancing to a finalist round with 4 teams remaining. The final pitch was conducted live in front of all 8 judges, and 200 other participants, teachers, and directors who partook in the competition, whereby three teams would ultimately place. ImagineWear would go on to win both the Third Place award and the Creativity Award, and the team looks to continue expanding on this concept.
